What’s the 8th House?

We invite you to delve into the intricate aspects of human experience represented in the 8th House of astrology—death, mental health, inheritances, and transformation.

Step into an oasis of your imagination—a haven dedicated to healing justice practice, integration, and rest.

The 8th House serves as a refuge for collective exploration, where there is no wrong way to engage in healing. Come claim time and space for self at the 8th House. Engage individually and/or collectively.

Let’s reject a one-size-fits-all model of care, and ground our healing strategies in the wisdom of place and ancestral technologies.

Play with sensory experiences, including:

  • tea time offering

  • time with live plants and dry herbs

  • a community altar

  • soft landings on pillows and blankets

  • engagement with music, sound, and silence

  • a wind phone to the call ancestors

There is a table with a white table cloth that has bowls of herbs sitting at equal intervals on the table. There are also empty tea bags in order for people to make tea
An old fashion payphone is attached to a wall. It has a lace overing on top of it and some decorative dried plants. The payphone is red and the container is sky blue.

Universal Masking: In alignment disability justice principles, the 8th House practices universal masking. This means masks are required except when eating, drinking, performing or presenting.

We uplift the role of practice as a vital ingredient for transformation and invite experimenting with intuition toning, relationship training, adaptation, collective grieving, and release.

We create participatory altars in the 8th House and invite you to bring items to contribute.

There are 12 houses of astrology that signify different areas of our lives. The 8th House is about death, mental health, inheritances, and transformation.

8th House in Astrology

The 8th House references traditional astrology—a system of deriving meaning from the stars and planets, and where they are in relationship to each other at any given time in their orbit.

As members of queer and trans community, we have experiences with these themes—events often have name scrolls of lost loved ones and our people are overrepresented in fatality statistics. White supremacy, racial capitalism, carceral models of care, and heteropatriarchy ask us to move on and look ahead, build the new and shiny, grow endlessly towards profit, attempting to obscure the true costs of extraction and extinction.

Our invitation is to be with us in a cultural alternative. Join us to deepen into these themes, to create space to be in the question of what might emerge when we take the time and space for healing and integration.

Healing Justice Principles

1. Collective Trauma is transformed collectively

2. There is no single model of care

3. Healing strategies are rooted in place and ancestral technologies
