Care and resistance, they have to be together.

—Miss Major

We are making space that all people deserve. The 8th House is a landing pad, a balm for the pains we carry, a place to explore a different relationship to time and experiment with modalities for healing and connectivity.

  • Healing spaces are necessary anywhere we gather together to hold the complexities of liberation and to be free.

  • Respite from an overstimulating hotel or environment.

  • Inviting and Intriguing, folks come to conferences to feel what is possible, to be inspired and welcomed.

  • Building movement capacity, we offer sensory reminders to ground and access what is already with us. A lounge is a replicable tool for organizers to create in their own community.

  • An accessibility adaptation: living disability justice principles through planning and execution to include all our people.

Why a lounge?

What’s in the 8th House?

While each 8th House is unique and forms according to its particular location and the community it serves, these elements will give you an idea of what makes up the 8th House:

Plants- We have plants large and small, and an optional forest floor where we invite you to put your hands or feet in the elements. Plants support grounding and our connection to earth.

Altars- We include altars to presence those who we carry with us, to include those who have shaped us and to honor grief and loss. A participatory altar can have a physical and/or digital component. We can also include a Wind Phone to have conversations with ancestors. This concept began in Japan after devastating tsunamis in 2011.

Tea- A warming and aromatic connection to the senses and grounding earth energies. Available with a welcoming tea tent and nearby seating area.

Movement- We shape offerings to move the body, move energy, move spirit based on the needs and interests. We create a movement area for folks to use as desired with props like yoga mats and foam rollers available. A dance floor that doubles as a stage or workshop area is available. We make space with the intention to inspire each others’ movements.

Magic- We provide a library of content on rest, meditations, tarot, astrology, zines, and healing modalities as applicable to a community. We curate vibes throughout the conference with all who use the space.

Lounge- Chairs, couches, pillows, sheepskins, lighting. We welcome those who need a space to rest, and prioritize comforts and the needs of diverse bodies.

Offerings- We work with local practitioners to presence place and the creative and spiritual work happening in the host city.
